Shaun served as an operational fire fighter for 20 years taking command of a number of incidents in Central London including bomb incidents during the IRA campaign, high rise fires, industrial fires, hotel fires and many other types of fires. Shaun also served as an inspecting and enforcing officer with London Fire Brigade covering the prestigious Westminster District in London. After leaving the fire service Shaun was Director of Risk Management for Continental Europe for InterContinental Hotels Group with an additional role of being the Group’s global fire safety adviser. He travelled widely in this role advising on the fire safety policy and procedures for the group in a number of different countries including Russia and the old Eastern Bloc countries as well as all the Western European countries.

Shaun moved to the United Arab Emirates in 2014 with his wife to take up a fire safety consultancy role in the region.
